About Our Dogges

Mischief-Arizona Olde English Bulldogges

We named our "kennel" Mischief because of the nature of this breed.  They are definitely full of Mischief and of course, we are in Arizona.  We get emails and phone calls all the time from people wanting to know where "Mischief" is located in Arizona.  It always reminds us that no matter how hard the work, the fun in the breed is always there.  These dogges are like no other and we've found ourselves saying, "anything else is just a dog".  How true this is!  And while there is a great deal of work involved in building a program and taking care of these dogges that live inside our home with us as family members, we have a goal to "build a better bulldogge".  We strive to make every generation a step ahead of the previous which is one of the reasons we have such a strict contract on spaying and neutering and allowing only the best of each litter to go to homes for breeding purposes.  And only those with the same ideals for breeding these dogges will get rights to do so.  We don't breed these dogges for what we make in sales, but to better the breed and what we do make goes right back into our program for their care and other expenses.  There is a huge amount of work that goes into any good program and raising a litter is much more than putting a male with a female and selling puppies after watching them grow up for 8 weeks.  It's an enormous responsibility, but we do what we do for the love of the breed and the gratification we get when our produced pups get points or even place at a show is worth every inch of effort we put into this.

General Information

Someone once said that "dogs are not our whole lives, but they make our lives whole".  We couldn't agree more with that statement.  We are not a kennel, but hobby breeders of the Olde English Bulldogge.   The Olde English Bulldogge is a recreation of the English Bulldog of the 17th Century.  There are hundreds of websites that give excellent

The English Bulldog is classified by the AKC as a non-sporting, non-working dog.  The Olde is classified as a Working Dog.  The Olde is an athlete that can run and play as any other breed of dog. They can work as any other working dog - in the fields herding sheep and cattle or even as therapy dogs in the healthcare setting.   They are loyal and will protect your family if the need arises, at the very risk of their own lives.  They are clowns that live to make you happy.  They are companions that will simply love you, with all of their heart.  They are intelligent and eager to please.  They are adaptable to any situation and environment and can even withstand the Arizona heat with proper conditioning and lots of provisions for their safety.  They detail on the history and it's fascninating.

While we love the traditional English Bulldog of today, we do not love the health problems that many of these dogs are plagued with.  The Olde (pronounced Oldie) is the healthy alternative for those that share our same concerns.  They are free whelpers (which means they can normally deliver their pups without cesarean section surgery as is standard for the English Bulldog), free breeders as they don't require artifical assistance to reproduce and most importantly, free breathers.  Due to the short noses of the breed, the English Bulldog often requires surgery to shorten the palate to help them get the oxygen they need.  are the whole package.

We hope you get to know what it's like to be an Olde English Bulldogge fancier!

A Note on our way of breeding

Our sole goal is to make better dogges with each and every litter we produce.  We are not simply "puppy producers".  Each breeding is very carefully chosen and we agonize over making decisions that can impact generations of Oldes for possibly one hundred years or more!  We do NOT own "breeding pairs" or breed multiple breeds of other dogs.  We do not beleive in designer breeds.  We have dedicated our time and energies to focus on one thing - doing the best we can to improve the Olde English Bulldogge breed by breeding to the IOEBA standards as set forth by the IOEBA.  Be cautious if you see the same "breeder" with only a single male and a single female who repeat the breeding, year after year, and sometimes, every cycle.  That practice only creates a large quantitiy of the puppies with very similar genetic makeup.  If they don't keep back their best puppies, then motives may be questionable on why they chose to breed Olde English Bulldogges.

We also will not do a breeding that we wouldn't want to keep both "pick" male AND "pick" female from.  You will rarely see a "Pick of the Litter" puppy available from Mischief-Arizona for sale - "Pick" puppy simply means that it is our favorite at six weeks of age when we make our decision on which pup we are keeping back for the program.  We keep the best of the best for further line development in our plans for the future.  We won't ever be world reknowned because our focus in on what goes on with our lines here in our home and are not out to market our dogges as a commodity around the world, but we do want to make a few families happy along the road to building a better bulldogge.

The best looking puppy at 6 weeks, may not be the best at one year as the Olde goes through many stages through the first year and then "fills out" until sometimes after the third birthday.  The puppy you see on his or her first birthday is rarely the adult dogge you will see at three.  Sometimes, the least favorite puppy at 6 weeks is the best of the litter at 2 years and visa versa.  The Olde is such a unique breed that you can't truly tell what you have until you put the time and effort into raising the dogge.

We just do the best we can to continue our quest to "Build a Better Bulldogge"

Our Registration Policy

All of our dogges are placed in homes with a strict spay/neuter contract in place.  (Please email us for a copy of our contract so that you may view the details in full).  This does not mean that our dogges are of lesser quality or value, in fact, it shows our commitment to the breed.  Also, these are placed on a "limited registration" which means that the dogge will not be placed as a breeding stock dogge.   Limited registration also means that any puppies that are produced without the written consent of Mischief Arizona will not be able to be registered.  If you would like to breed one of our puppies when he or she reaches the proper age, simply go through the appropriate channels and supply us with photos, or arrange to meet us if you are local, at 6 months of age and then again at 12 months (or later which is a better indicator of the dogges conformation as this breed can take up to three years to become the dogge they will ultimately be).  If the dogge meets our criteria after going through the "teenage" time where a large number of changes occur in the dogges appearance, we are most happy to give you breeding rights by having the registrations changed to open registration and any puppies produced after this will be registerable with the IOEBA/UCA.   No one else can change the registration from Limited to Unlimited except Mischief-Arizona Olde English Bulldogges.   We choose to use this method to ensure that only the finest examples of the breed from Mischief-Arizona are being used to create future generations.  The breedings we do today have enormous consequences for tommorow.  We do encourage these puppies to be shown at IOEBA Sanctioned Events.  To show a puppy or adult dogge, the dogge must be intact and not altered (spayed or neutered).  If a puppy is good enough to win points towards his or her championship or even place 2nd at an event, this alone tells us that the puppy meets and exceeds IOEBA Breed Standards and this does make a case for Mischief-Arizona Olde English Bulldogges to release breeding rights for your puppy.  If you have any questions about this practice, please do feel free to call us at 623.910.2009.  We are more than happy to answer them and we do encourage you to call or contact us.
